Passenger Railroad Applications
AMTRAK
- First Revenue Management system in the railroad industry, since July 1991, built by Sabre.
- Focuses on long distance intercity trains, where it performs overbooking, discount allocation and origin destination traffic management
- Manages inventory for ~200 reserved trains on a nightly basis
- LP used to calculate displacement costs, EMSR used to determine allocations
- ARROW reservation system supports hierarchical nesting, but not virtual nesting, so OD traffic control must be effected by origin destination market sales limits and inhibitors
